Make 5 decisions. See how your life unfolds across 5 different timelines.
Splitting timelines...
Parallel Lives is an interactive thought experiment that explores how five major life decisions shape wildly different futures. You make real choices about career, relationships, risk, crisis, and opportunity — then see your life unfold across five simultaneous timelines, each representing a different combination of paths.
You begin by entering your name and age. The experience then presents five pivotal life moments at different ages, each with two or three options. After making all your choices, the system generates five parallel timelines — including yours, plus four alternate versions where different decisions were made. Each timeline tracks career trajectory, relationship status, financial health, personal well-being, and an overall happiness score from 1 to 100. A butterfly effect analysis reveals which single decision had the biggest impact across all timelines.
Every major life decision creates a ripple effect that shapes future opportunities, relationships, and personal growth. Research in psychology shows that career choices, relationship commitments, and how we handle adversity are among the most consequential decisions. Small differences in timing or courage can lead to dramatically different life trajectories over 10-20 years.
The butterfly effect is the concept that small changes in initial conditions can lead to vastly different outcomes over time. In life decisions, this means a single choice — like taking a different job, moving to a new city, or saying yes to a date — can completely alter the course of your life. Parallel Lives lets you explore how your actual decisions might create wildly different futures.
The biggest decisions in life typically include career path selection, relationship and marriage choices, whether to take major risks, how to handle personal crises, and whether to seize unexpected opportunities. Studies show these five categories account for most of the variance in life satisfaction. This interactive experience lets you explore all five.
