World Map Quiz is a free online geography game that challenges you to locate 30 countries on an interactive world map. The game progresses from well-known nations like Brazil and Australia to harder-to-find countries like Azerbaijan and Suriname. Each round gives you 15 seconds to click where you think the country is located, and your score is determined by how close your guess is to the actual center of the country.
Using the Haversine formula to calculate the great-circle distance between your click and the target, the game provides precise distance measurements in kilometers. Earn up to 100 points per round for guesses within 150 km, with a maximum possible score of 3,000 points across all 30 rounds.
The game uses an Equirectangular projection to display the world map, where latitude maps linearly to the Y axis and longitude maps to the X axis. You can pan the map by clicking and dragging (or using two fingers on mobile) and zoom in using the scroll wheel (or pinch gestures). When you place your guess, the game reveals the correct location with an animated line showing the distance between your click and the target.
Countries are divided into three difficulty tiers: Easy (rounds 1-10), Medium (rounds 11-20), and Hard (rounds 21-30). Easy countries are large, well-known nations. Hard countries are smaller or less commonly referenced, testing even experienced geography enthusiasts.
You are shown the name of a country and must click on the world map where you think that country is located. There are 195 countries in the world today. This includes 193 member states of the United Nations and 2 observer states (the Holy See and Palestine).
