Hearts is a classic trick-taking card game for 4 players where the objective is to avoid collecting hearts and the dreaded Queen of Spades. Each heart is worth 1 penalty point, and the Queen of Spades is worth 13. The game plays over multiple rounds until a player reaches 100 points, at which time the player with the lowest score wins.
Before each round begins, players pass 3 cards to another player. The passing direction rotates: left, right, across, then a hold round where no cards are passed. Choosing which cards to pass is a critical strategic decision — do you dump dangerous high cards, or keep them to protect yourself?
If you manage to collect all 13 hearts AND the Queen of Spades in a single round, you "shoot the moon." Instead of receiving 26 points, every other player gets 26 points added to their score. This high-risk play can swing the entire game in your favor.
Each heart taken is worth 1 point and the Queen of Spades is worth 13 points. The goal is to finish with the fewest points when someone reaches 100.
Collecting all 13 hearts and the Queen of Spades in one round. Instead of you getting 26 points, every opponent gets 26 points.
No. The direction rotates automatically: left, right, across, then hold (no passing). This cycle repeats every 4 rounds.
