Excavate dinosaur skeletons layer by layer. Choose your tools wisely — rough handling damages precious bones!
Rank:
Fossil Dig is a free online paleontology excavation game where you carefully uncover dinosaur skeletons buried beneath layers of earth. Use brushes, chisels, and hammers to dig through soil — but be careful! Aggressive tools near exposed bones will damage your precious finds and lower your excavation quality score.
Choose from five iconic dinosaur species — T-Rex, Triceratops, Stegosaurus, Velociraptor, and Pterodactyl — then excavate a grid-based dig site layer by layer. Each cell hides multiple layers of soil. Fossils are scattered throughout the grid, and your goal is to uncover every bone while minimizing damage. As you find bones, they appear in an assembly diagram showing your reconstruction progress.
Did you know? The largest T-Rex skeleton ever found, named Sue, contains 250 of the possible 380 bones and sold for $8.4 million.
T-Rex, Triceratops, Stegosaurus, Velociraptor, and Pterodactyl. Each has a unique skeleton layout to excavate.
Brush removes one layer safely, chisel removes two but can damage fossils, hammer removes three but risks significant damage. Choose wisely near bones!
Yes! Using aggressive tools near exposed bones reduces your excavation quality score. The brush is always safe but slow.
