Create and launch your own custom fireworks show. Choose burst patterns, colors, and choreograph a stunning display in the night sky.
The Fireworks Designer is a free browser-based creative tool that lets you build and launch custom fireworks shows. Choose from six burst patterns — spherical, ring, heart, star, willow, and crossette — then pick colors, sizes, and trail effects to craft up to 12 unique firework types. Arrange them on a 30-second timeline with precise launch positions, then hit play and watch your choreographed show light up the night sky. Or just click anywhere on the canvas in freeplay mode to launch whatever you've designed.
Fireworks get their colors from metal salts added to the gunpowder mixture. When heated, different metals emit specific wavelengths of light: strontium produces red, barium produces green, copper produces blue, sodium produces yellow/orange, and magnesium or aluminum produces white/silver. Pyrotechnicians blend these salts to achieve almost any hue.
Professional pyrotechnicians choreograph fireworks shows using specialized software to sync bursts with music. They plan the sequence, timing, positions, and types of shells, often programming hundreds of individual cues that fire electronically with millisecond precision. The design process can take months for major displays.
Fireworks can be engineered into many shapes including spheres, rings, hearts, stars, willows (drooping trails), peonies, chrysanthemums, crossettes (which split mid-air), palms, and even smiley faces. The shape is determined by how the stars — pellets of pyrotechnic composition — are arranged inside the shell before it's packed with burst charge.
