Fencing is a free online sword dueling game where you step onto the piste and engage in tactical épée bouts against AI opponents. Master the art of distance management, time your parries to perfection, and execute devastating ripostes to score touches. Fencing is one of only five sports contested at every modern Olympic Games since 1896 — and now you can experience the thrill of competitive swordplay right in your browser.
Choose from three attack distances — Thrust (arm extension, low risk), Lunge (medium range, moderate risk), and Flèche (running attack, high risk but devastating). Use Advance and Retreat to control distance on the piste. The key to mastery is the parry-riposte: time your parry perfectly as your opponent attacks, then immediately counter with a nearly unblockable riposte. Bouts are first to 15 touches across 3 periods. Three AI difficulties test your skills from Novice to Champion.
Time your parry just as the opponent's blade arrives. A successful parry deflects their attack and gives you a brief window to launch an immediate riposte — a counter-attack that is nearly unblockable. The timing window is tight: too early and you'll drop your guard, too late and you'll get hit. Look for the opponent's attack telegraph and react quickly.
Right-of-way determines who scores when both fencers attack simultaneously. The fencer who initiated the attack first, or who successfully parried and riposted, has priority. If neither has right-of-way, simultaneous touches may result in no score for either side. In competitive épée, both fencers can score simultaneously, but this game uses right-of-way to add strategic depth.
A full bout is first to 15 touches, divided into 3 periods of 3 minutes each. If the score is tied after all periods, a sudden-death overtime with a 1-minute clock decides the winner. If still tied after overtime, priority is assigned randomly and the next touch wins.
