What Is Checkers?

Checkers is a free online version of classic American Checkers (also known as Draughts) where you play against an AI opponent. Choose from three difficulty levels — Easy, Medium, or Hard — and try to capture all of the AI's pieces on the 8×8 board.

How It Works

Each player starts with 12 pieces on dark squares. Pieces move diagonally forward and capture by jumping over opponents. Reach the opposite end to crown a King that moves in all diagonal directions. Captures are mandatory. The AI uses minimax algorithm on harder difficulties to plan several moves ahead.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do you play Checkers?

Each player starts with 12 pieces on dark squares. Pieces move diagonally forward one square. Capture opponent pieces by jumping over them. If a capture is available, you must take it. Reach the opposite end to crown a King, which moves in any diagonal direction. Win by capturing all opponent pieces.

What are the rules for Kings in Checkers?

When a piece reaches the opposite end of the board, it becomes a King. Kings can move and capture diagonally in any direction (forward and backward), while regular pieces can only move forward. Kings are marked with a crown symbol and are much more powerful.

Can you play Checkers online against a computer?

Yes! This free online Checkers game lets you play against an AI opponent with three difficulty levels: Easy (random moves), Medium (basic strategy), and Hard (minimax algorithm that looks several moves ahead). No download or account needed.
