What Is Catan Dice?

Catan Dice is a free online solo strategy game inspired by the classic Settlers of Catan board game. Roll six custom resource dice — wood, brick, sheep, wheat, ore, and gold (wild) — and build roads, settlements, cities, and knights on a hex island map. Each turn gives you up to three rolls with push-your-luck dice holding, then you spend resources to expand your territory and earn Victory Points.

How It Works

Each game lasts 15 turns. On your turn, roll all 6 dice, then choose which to hold and which to re-roll (up to 2 more times). After rolling, use your collected resources to build structures on the island. Roads (wood + brick) connect to new building sites. Settlements (wood + brick + sheep + wheat) earn 1 VP each. Cities (wheat ×2 + ore ×3) upgrade settlements for 2 VP. Knights (wheat + sheep + ore) earn 1 VP each. Gold dice are wild and count as any resource.

How is Catan Dice different from the board game?

Catan Dice is a solo experience focused on dice strategy and spatial building. There is no trading with opponents — instead, you manage your own resource luck through push-your-luck re-rolling and strategic holds. The gold die acts as a wildcard to smooth out bad rolls. Your goal is to maximize Victory Points across 15 turns of building.

What does each resource build?

Roads cost 1 wood + 1 brick and connect to new building locations. Settlements cost 1 wood + 1 brick + 1 sheep + 1 wheat and are worth 1 VP. Cities cost 2 wheat + 3 ore and are worth 2 VP. Knights cost 1 wheat + 1 sheep + 1 ore and are worth 1 VP each. Gold substitutes for any single resource.

How many turns do I get?

You get exactly 15 turns. Each turn allows up to 3 dice rolls (the initial roll plus 2 re-rolls). Plan your builds carefully — early roads open up valuable settlement positions for later turns!
