What Is Beat Maker?

Beat Maker is a free, browser-based drum machine that lets you create beats using synthesized drum sounds. It runs entirely in your browser using the Web Audio API — no downloads, no plugins, no signup. Choose from three kits (Trap, Lo-Fi, and Rock), tap the 16 drum pads to play sounds, and use the step sequencer to program looping patterns. Whether you're a beginner experimenting with rhythm or a producer sketching out ideas, this tool gives you everything you need to start making music instantly.

How It Works

1. Pick a Kit

Switch between Trap, Lo-Fi, and Rock kits to change the character of every drum sound. Each kit has been carefully synthesized to capture the feel of its genre.

2. Tap the Pads

Hit the 16 color-coded pads to trigger sounds instantly. Use your keyboard (keys shown on each pad) for faster performance. Each sound is generated in real-time using oscillators and noise buffers.

3. Build a Loop

Use the 16-step sequencer grid to program patterns. Toggle cells on and off, hit Play, and watch your beat come to life. Use Record mode to tap pads in real-time and capture them into the grid.

4. Adjust Tempo

Slide the BPM control between 60 and 180 to set your groove speed. The visual beat indicator shows exactly where you are in the loop.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do you make beats online for free?

You can make beats online for free using this browser-based drum machine. Just tap the drum pads to play sounds, use the step sequencer to build looping patterns, and switch between kits — no download, signup, or software required.

What is a step sequencer?

A step sequencer is a grid-based tool for programming beats. Each row represents a different drum sound, and each column is a beat subdivision. You toggle cells on or off to create patterns that loop automatically.

Can I make music in my browser?

Yes! Modern browsers support the Web Audio API, which lets you synthesize and play sounds directly. This beat maker uses that technology to generate all drum sounds in real-time — it works on phones and computers.
